EDIT 2011 - beware, some harsh language and something of a rant ahead >
It's come to my attention that a good many people have been saving the full-size version of this image and then posting it to other sites, forums and whatnot, and either claiming the ship and design as their own or creating entirely fanwankery stat writeups for it.
I've had this go so far as to have people rile up against me in support of someone claiming that _I_ was the one who stole the design from someone else at one point and had a campaign started to call me out on it, until some actual research was done and it was found that my design and this image predated the claim by three or four years at the time.
I'm aware that this design is reaching something of a popularity base now, and I'm glad for that. But this shit has got to stop; I've worked too hard and too long on my projects just to have some little shit pop out of the woodworks every other week and try to yank it out from under me. So, because of this, I was tempted to take this image down, but then after taking the previously mentioned incident and how only the timestamp on this submission to dA seemed to prove that it was indeed my own design, I've decided to keep it posted here.
What I've instead decided to do instead is simply lock the image from being downloaded and have the submission shrunk into its smallest available viewable form to prevent the full-sized image from being distributed anymore. I'm sorry it's had to come to this, but I'm simply just fucking tired of having my hard work ripped off from under me.
Thanks to everyone else though who's supported me through the years with this design, where it's been taken and what it's evolved into since this one post all the way back in 2005--it feels like it was a lifetime ago, and in many ways for me it may as well have been. Since then this design has spawned a massive and vibrant original series universe of my own creation completely separate to its vague Star Wars-esque beginnings, and try as I might to deny it, it likely wouldn't exist now in its current form if it weren't for this one model that I was told by some upstart site mod wasn't even good enough to be a game model.
Well now it's 2011, I've graduated college twice with a degree in modeling, animation and game design, and am working on some pretty fucking huge game projects right now, all the while cultivating this absolutely massive original universe of mine into something truely awesome. So thanks random site mod for shooting down that arrogant little highschooler all the way back in 2005, because it's now 2011 and this girl has never flown higher
My work so far on my own Star Destroyer design...I call her the Infiltrator- class Imperial "Stealth" Destroyer, mainly because that basically describes her...stealthy
I've worked hard on this ever since scifi3d.theforce.net told me that it was a shitty model and that it wasn't even good enough to be put into a game. I promised myself I would show them; I'm working to make this one more detailed than anything they have on their site. I'm not doing it for 'revenge' or anything...it just hurt because they just brushed me off and didn't even give me a chance...I guess I'm just doing it to prove myself
Anyway, this is what I have so far...still working on her, I know the detail on the bottom is a lot more sparse than on the top--I'm still working on the top and haven't gotten that far yet, that's why She doesn't have guns yet; I'm still trying to decide what she would be armed with...something relatively realistic for once compared to other ships in the Star Wars universe.
She's from 4000 years after ROTJ in case you're wondering; that's why she looks a lot more advanced than other Star Destroyer models that are currently online. I'm working to give her fully modeled hangar bays, bridge and some internals. Her engines are thrust-vectoring too, which I figured added a nice touch.
If anyone has any comments or suggestions, I'd love to hear them! ^_^
This is better then anything Star Wars presently deserves (and I'm a SW fan). You've taken the concept of the Star Destroyer and created something beautiful and original. I am impressed by your hard work and talent and I'm dismayed to hear about the petty theft by others of your project. Be strong and take pride in the fact that you inspire.
In fact, I did just that The base concept of this ship has since become [yet not posted anywhere, have decided I'm going to finish it first instead of leaving it a half-baked mess like a lot of my other works] a working design-style base for the ships in my original-story universe.
This looks like a cross between an Acclamator-class and a MC80 Home One. It's nice, but I don't see the purpose in that elongated stern section. Stealth generator, maybe? If the generator takes up all that space, I don't see it that "advanced". I mean, the Empire already had TIEs with stealth generators.
Anyways, great desing. Maybe I am being overly critical, but, you know. It's for the better. She's beautiful.
This is an amazing design of a star destroyer. Kudos on all your hard work. You said in your design that you had finished her, what kind of weapons did you arm her with, and is she still a stealth destroyer?
I think this is a really cool ship. She appears to be very fast and highly manuverable, as compared to other Star Destroyers. I would imagine that she is used as an advanced scout ahead of the main fleet, a 'reconaissance in force' as they call it.
Pretty sweet ship dude. I am not an artist but that is some excellent work there. I am programmer and I am looking to make a top down space shooter. I was wondering If I may use your art. You definitely will receive the credit.
My fist. Their faces. Just point me in the right direction.
I like it.
Thanks for sharing your vision.
